Fenty Beauty Cheeks Out Freestyle Cream Blush Gives You The Perfect Summertime Flush: Review

Fact: I almost exclusively wear cream blushes, like Glossier Cloud Paint (technically it’s labeled as a “gel-cream” blush) and 2018 Best of Beauty winner Onomie Boosting Lip + Cheek Stick. I find that they settle into my skin and leave a more natural, dewy finish better than powder blushes tend to, and they’re usually easier to apply and blend out. As in, I can use my hands and don’t have to dig around for a brush. So when Rihanna launched her summer-ready Cheeks Out Collection, and I saw how flawless and buttery-smooth the Freestyle Cream Blushes looked on her, I immediately knew I had to buy one for myself. As an indecisive person, choosing between 10 unique shades isn’t an easy task. Rihanna’s “Shots and Swatches” video had me in stitches (and wanting to try out the challenge for myself), but Fenty Beauty’s website, which features Asian models and swatches on four different skin tones, seriously helped your girl out.Courtesy of brandI ultimately decided to go with Strawberry Drip, which is billed as a “soft coral pink” and screams summertime soirée to me. In its compact-like packaging (complete with a mini mirror), Strawberry Drip looks brighter and more intense, but on my skin, it looks more like a warm pink with a hint of coral — just like the swatches suggest. The color payoff is definitely there without overwhelming my face and making me look like an abstract painting. (I want my blushes to show up and be present, not disappear into my skin.)The formula — an impossibly lightweight cream — couldn’t be easier or faster to apply. In fact, after I’ve put on a thin layer of Espoir Pro Tailor Foundation Be Glow, I simply use my (clean!) fingers to build up and blend out the color (a technique approved by Rihanna, by the way), and I’m done. The resulting pink glow on my cheeks is priceless. OK, and definitely worth the $20. I don’t exercise much, but the post-application look is what I’d imagine my flushed face looks like after a brief jog — minus the sweat and heavy breathing. Wearing only foundation and blush; Wearing the whole ensemble
Sarah Han/AllureSince the blush is meant to be a multitasking product, I also dab a dot on both eyelids for a cohesive, one-minute look or use it as an eye shadow base and build on it. (You can also apply it onto your lips, but it’s not really for me.)Whether I’m getting minimally dolled-up for Zoom calls or experimenting with full-fledged looks to appease my stay-at-home boredom, Cheeks Out wakes up my face and gives it that summer-ready pink glow.Pick up a Fenty Beauty’s Cheeks Out Freestyle Cream Blush at fentybeauty.com for $20.Need more blush recommendations?
